Bike leasing for police services: how does it work exactly?

Good news: on May 13, 2026, the Belgian Council of Ministers approved a draft Royal Decree that would make bike leasing possible for all police service employees. The draft still needs to be submitted to the Council of State, but the direction is clear.

How does it work financially?

Employees can choose to build a theoretical budget based on their end-of-year bonus. That budget can then be used for bike leasing. The choice must be made before the start of the reference period used to determine the end-of-year bonus.

What if the lease amount is higher than the end-of-year bonus?

The difference is covered by the employee. If the end-of-year bonus is higher than the lease amount, the non-converted portion is simply paid out as usual.

What happens in case of resignation, retirement, or change of employer?

If the lease contract ends early because of this, the remaining lease costs are charged to the employee. Joule communicates this transparently from the start.

This is a new regulation that is still being finalized. Joule closely follows all legal developments and will support police zones and services as soon as the regulation officially comes into effect.

Small change, big impact

Less traffic on the way to work,
more energy during the workday

From challenge to solution with Joule.

🕔 Irregular shifts, no fixed commute schedule?

Early shifts, late shifts, night duty: no two days in the police force are the same. A lease bike gives your people the freedom to leave whenever it suits them, without depending on public transport or a colleague with a car.

🚔 Police station not centrally located?

Not every police station is located in the city center. With an e-bike or speed pedelec, your people can easily cover those last few miles without searching for parking or waiting for a bus that may never come.

💪 Mentally demanding work deserves proper decompression!

A shift in the police force leaves its mark. A bike is not just transportation, it is also a way to decompress, clear your mind after the day, and get home feeling more refreshed. Your people will avoid rush hour, stay active, and arrive with more energy.
